Students will gain hands-on experiential learning through the Skoll Centre, the Said Global Entrepreneur Network, the Centre for Mutual and Employee-Owned Business, and the Center on Business and Poverty. Students will also have access to lectures from world experts on development and social entrepreneurship.

CLASS POL 285: The Politics of Development; 3-week (May 28 - June 14, 2012), 3-credit course

COURSE TOPICS:
• Understanding the relationship between democracy and economic well-being
• Addressing social, economic and environmental problems
• Learning practical approaches to eliminate the causes of poverty
• Learning practical approaches to addressing real world problems, including a project to eradicate polio in the less developed countries.

ESTIMATED PROGRAM COSTS:
Administrative Application Fee: $200 (An administrative application fee of $200 is due upon application and is non-refundable unless we cancel the program)
Airfare: $1,200
Mandatory UW Insurance: $37
Program Fee: $2,763 (covers 3 credits of summer study, in-country transportation, housing, meals, in-country programming, orientation)

How to Apply 

Complete, sign and send the UW Colleges Study Abroad Application form together with the Uniform Statement of Responsibility, Release and Authorization to the UW Colleges Study Abroad Coordinator.

A deposit is due upon application (See each trip for specific refund and payment deadlines). Deposits and all payments are non-refundable after the full payment deadline. Deposit checks and final payments should be made out to “UW Colleges” and sent to the UW Colleges Study Abroad Coordinator. Participants cannot register directly for a study abroad program in PRISM. The UW Colleges Study Abroad Coordinator will make sure each participant is registered properly in PRISM.
