Service Learning

About Service Learning

The UW Colleges and UW-Extension have a long history of service-learning projects on campus and out in the community. Service-learning fits into our mission of the Wisconsin Idea and our commitment to student and civic engagement in the communities of Wisconsin. We hold service-learning conferences and workshops every year to further engage students, faculty, staff, and community partners. We are working on institutionalizing service learning in the UW Colleges, on each of the 13 campuses, in each of local communities, in the academic departments, and with as many students as possible. This website is a collection of resources for students, faculty, staff, and community partners on service learning and community engagement. As a sociology professor, I can't think of a better way to integrate student engagement, teaching, professional development, and community outreach than through service learning projects.

-Dr. Gregory Peter

Service-Learning Coordinator

Associate Professor of Sociology, UW-Fox Valley

Choosing to begin my college education at UW-Barron County has been one of the wisest decisions of my life. Not only am I saving money through the low tuition rates, living at home and continuing to work at my jobs, but I'm also managing to get through my Associate degree without student loans.
