Proposed UW Colleges Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree
The proposed UW Colleges Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) degree is a collaborative applied studies baccalaureate completion program with a local focus for underserved, place-bound adults and is designed for flexible course delivery. The BAAS degree is designed to meet the needs of underserved, place-bound, and swirling adults, and organizations, businesses, and public institutions in local communities, in new and more efficient ways. It is centered on 21st-century competencies and skills that people need to become productive, contributing participants in the local community, particularly as local communities become tied to the global knowledge economy. As an applied, collaborative, locally focused and individualized degree that places the local in a global context, the UW Colleges Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree is distinct in its programmatic focus. Its focus on meeting the needs of adult students and their local communities is consistent with the emerging pattern of many new baccalaureate programs offered by institutions historically providing the liberal arts associate degree.
