Technology support funds have been designatedby UW System for technology projects related to curricular development/redesign,faculty and staff training and technology enhancements for academic andstudent support services. These funds present us with an exciting opportunityto support our faculty and staff as we integrate technology into our teachingand work. The allocation of these funds reflects the priorities of theStrategic Plan and the recommendations of the Senate Budget committee tosupport faculty and staff training in technology.

 
 
 
 
 
 
A.CurricularDevelopment/Redesign/Enhancement Grants

1)TechnologyEnhancement Grants

 

Text Box: Faculty and IASTheseindividual grants for technology enhancements for current courses of upto $750 each will be awarded to 5 faculty or instructional academic staffwith 50% or greater appointments over two years.

2)CourseDevelopment/Redesign Grants

These six grants will focuson reinforcing institutional curricular needs (developing/redesigning atraditional course for delivery on CV or the web or as an IS course) asidentified by the deans and department chairs in the curricular planningprocess. Departments will nominate faculty/course projects. The grant willprovide summer stipends of $2000, training and material costs. Preferencewill be given to full-time faculty.

3)CriticalConcepts Grants

Text Box: Department ChairsMostuniversity courses contain certain critical concepts that are difficultfor many students to master and thereby are significant stumbling blocksto student progress in the course. Departments are invited to propose onesuch critical concept and a two-member faculty team to develop a web-basedmodule designed to help students master the concept. The team will workclosely with a professional instructional designer during the summer toimplement and assess the module in their courses during the fall. Eachfaculty member will receive a summer stipend of $2000. Two proposals willbe funded. Highest priority will be given to modules to be used in freshmancourses with substantial enrollment. Instructional academic staff are eligibleas part of a two member team with faculty.

B.TechnologyTraining – Faculty and Staff Instructional Technology Workshops

Applications and Criteria

All grant applications should be summary statementsof no more that two paragraphs and should be emailed to Dick Berke, UWCgrants officer, prior to the deadline listed under each grant above. Moreextensive follow-up materials may be requested for grants under A.3. Facultyand departments receiving grants under A.3 will be expected to presentthe results of their experience and assessment to the department or broaderfaculty bodies.


 

Proposed grants under A.1. “Technology EnhancementGrants ”, should identify the courses affected. A statement should addressthe expected impact on students and the number of students in the coursesand should be approved by the department.


 

Proposed grants under B.1. and B.2.fordepartmental and campus workshops should address departmental and campustraining needs. Departments and campuses may have already identified needsbut should also refer to the UW System Survey of Computing Resources, availableon the web at http://www.uwsa.edu/olit/survey/and especially Table 20, which contains the detailed areas of desired facultytraining summarized in Figure 9. Table 20 is on the web at http://www.uwc.edu/cio/table20.htm


 

Assessment of Grant Projects

Successful grant applicants will be required towork with the CIO on a specific plan for assessment and reporting on theproject.
