The Department of Mathematics, one of the 17 academic departments of the UW Colleges, serves the students of the thirteen UW Colleges through its mission of providing a quality, two-year collegiate transfer mathematics program with an emphasis on teaching effectiveness. The mathematics program offered by the Department accommodates students with varying abilities, preparation, and goals through a curriculum that fits the needs of students who desire to be mathematicians, engineers, or science majors; students seeking to satisfy general education mathematics requirements; students requiring service courses for other majors; and students in need of developmental courses as preparation for college work. Beyond the attainment of a degree the Department seeks to educate students about the role that mathematics plays in other disciplines, it's role in the society in which we live, and the role it has played in the development of our culture.
