ESFY Campus Coordinators develop priorities for the institution related to the mission and goals of the ESFY Program. These priorities are distributed to the faculty and staff of the Colleges. Campus Coordinators are encouraged to work with their campuses to foster the growth of the ESFY Program in those arenas.
Strategic priorities are set by examining emerging student needs, potential collaborations with other programs within the Colleges, LEC 100 or other available ESFY-related assessment data, HLC Self-Study materials, and the Foundations of Excellence® in the First College Year Self Study.
The latter is a report that came from a year-long self-study of solely our first-year programming. In 2005, the University of Wisconsin Colleges was named one of 10 two-year "Founding Institutions" selected to participate in a national project known as the "Foundations of Excellence in the First College Year." This project, sponsored by the Policy Center on the First Year of College and endorsed by the American Association of Community Colleges and the League for Innovation in the Community College, was funded by the Lumina Foundation for Education.
The UW Colleges received the resources and support for an in-depth self-study of our first-year experience. While several key recommendations of the self-study have been implemented, its improvement plan continues to provide guidance on shaping our ESFY program in key ways.
Our 2012-2015 Strategic Priority is to create and enhance a focused and coordinated approach to the first year campus wide.
