Scientific Notebook Installation Instructions

Scientific Notebook Installation Instructions
System Requirements:
  • Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP or NT 4.0
  • 64 MB of RAM
  • 250 MB free hard disk space
  • CD-ROM drive
  • An Internet connection for registration
1)  Insert the Scientific Notebook CD.  The Scientific Notebook Setup window should appear.  If not, go to My Computer and double click on your CD drive.  If the Installation Setup window still does not appear, double click on the file Setup or Setup.exe.  Select "Next" to continue.



2)  Enter your first and last name in the User Name field, and the serial number: 113-E0600-14183-19630-33284 in the Serial Number field.  Click "Next" to continue.



3)  Click "Next" to continue.



4)  Choose the Complete setup type, and click "Next" to continue.



5) Click "Next" to continue.



6)  Wait a few moments while Scientific Notebook Setup installs the files on your computer.



7)  Select "Yes" to register.



8) Select the "By an automated web service" method.  Continue by clicking the "Next" button.



9)  Enter your UWC email address in the Email Address field. You must use your UWC email address.  You may want to uncheck "Add me to the MacKichan-NEWS mailing list" at the bottom.  Click "OK" to continue.



10)  Read the end user license agreement carefully.  Select "I accept this agreement" to indicate that you accept, and click "OK".



 
11)  Click the "Register Now" button.  This will send an email to your site administrator, who will forward it to you.  Please allow up to two business days to receive your license.  Note: you must be connected to the Internet to complete this step in the registration process. 



12)  Continue by clicking "OK".



13)  Restart your computer to complete the installation process by clicking the "Finish" button.


You have completed the software installation, but Scientific Notebook will not be fully functional until you complete the registration process by installing the license file. You will receive a registration email from scinotebook@uwc.edu containing your license file within one business day of your registration. Complete the steps listed in the email (also shown below) to install your license file and complete the registration process.


Installing the License File
1) Close Scientific Notebook if it is currently running.
2) Open the file attached to the email called "License.TXT".
3) Copy the entire file by going to the Edit menu and selecting "Select All", then go to the Edit menu and select "Copy".
4) Close the "License.TXT" file.
5) There should be an icon on your Desktop similar to the one below.  Double click on it to start Scientific Notebook.

6) You should see the following message indicating that the license file has been updated. Click "OK" and exit Scientific Notebook. After successfully completing these steps, Scientific Notebook should be ready for use.
