Associate Development Specialist

University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County

Position          

University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County invites applications for a Director of Development. The position is academic staff, 12-month, 60% (0.6 FTE).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Prior professional experience or formal training as a development or gift officer

  • Current experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software (such as MS Office or Open Office), customer relationship management (CRM) software, and social media applications

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and plan, prioritize and accomplish strategies and objectives

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a collaborative team member

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree

  • Related experience having led successful annual capital giving programs

  • Prior professional experience in an institution of higher education and/or a non-profit organization

Responsibilities         

Donor relations, stewardship and recognition:

  • Design strategies to identify, cultivate, strengthen and promote new and existing relationships with potential donors, including community members, alumni, corporations and foundations

  • Create and manage donor acquisition and retention programs.

    • Develop effective organizational and communications strategies linking potential donor interests with Campus and Foundation programs and needs

    • Using tested and innovative processes, conduct prospect research and establish contacts by direct mail, background information surveys, social media, or other tools

    • Plan and conduct visits, events and other ongoing contacts to build relationships with donors, corporations and foundations, effectively presenting the case for philanthropic support and explaining giving opportunities

    • Plan and implement donor recognition programs

  • Perform ongoing assessment of current and future development activities and objectives

  • Integrate development and fundraising activities through collaboration with existing campus internal and external departments and organizations

  • Manage annual fundraising campaigns for established Campus and Foundation priorities

  • Prepare grant requests to individuals, corporations, foundations and government entities for campus-wide initiatives

  • Assist the Foundation in Board development

Fiscal and administrative:

  • Establish and manage a donor database using customer relationship management software or similar program

  • Review, develop, and document procedures regarding efficient and accountable management of donations and funds transfers

Other duties as necessary to the success of the position, campus and foundation.

UW-Baraboo/Sauk County is a two-year liberal arts campus of the University of Wisconsin Colleges, founded in 1968 and located on 68 hillside acres in the scenic Baraboo Bluffs.
