Position

The Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a position in psychology at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 27, 2012, contingent upon budget approval.  As a transfer institution of the University of Wisconsin System, the UW Colleges consists of thirteen campuses located throughout Wisconsin which offer freshman and sophomore instruction in the liberal arts, an applied liberal artsbachelor's degree, and a number of collaborativebaccalaureate degrees with partner UW institutions.  The University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County is one of the thirteen UW Colleges.  Offering the Associate of Arts and Science degree and several collaborative bachelor degree opportunities, the campus provides a University of Wisconsin academic experience - with challenging coursework, top-notch support systems, and high-quality co-curricular opportunities.  UW-Baraboo/Sauk County is located on 68 hillside acres on the northwest side of Baraboo. Just a short drive from Madison and Wisconsin Dells, the campus is part of a region that is rich in beauty, history, and culture.  UW-Baraboo/Sauk County maintains an enrollment of approximately 600 students, about 30% of whom are age 22 and older. Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related field, with area of concentration open.  ABD candidates will be considered, provided the PhD is confirmed by the start of the appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience at the university level with specific concentration in quality undergraduate teaching and learning.  Knowledge of instructional technology and demonstrated efforts to continuing research is also desirable.

Responsibilities

The academic year teaching assignment is 24 credits and includes first and second year undergraduate psychology courses, typically with no more than three course preparations per semester.  Ability to teach a range of classes is required.  The individual employed will be expected to teach a set of essential courses: Introductory Psychology (PSY 202), Life Span Development Psychology (PSY 250), and Abnormal Psychology (PSY 309).  As well, the employed individual, given the candidate’s expertise and campus needs, will be expected to teach from among the following courses:  Statistical Methods in Psychology (PSY 210), Psychology of the Exceptional Individual (EDU 300), Psychology of Gender (PSY 208), Psychology of Childhood and Adolescence (PSY 360), and Social Psychology (PSY 330). Faculty members are also encouraged to teach a section of LEC 100: First-Year Seminar and to teach within our accelerated hybrid (Fast Track) program.  Involvement in community service, professional development, student advising, and shared governance activities are expected.

Salary

Starting salary is $43,000 (9 month academic year).  Summer session may occasionally offer additional opportunities for additional compensation.  An outstanding benefits package is included with the appointment.
