ASSOCIATE ACADEMIC LIBRARIAN
UW-Barron County, Rice Lake, Wisconsin, is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic reference librarian with a strong commitment to service and interest or experience in instruction. The library at UWBC is committed to faculty and student learning and research. The library uses Endeavor’s Voyager automated system and invests heavily in electronic reference and full-text resources.
Position: The Associate Academic Librarian is a member of the academic staff. This is a permanent (83%) 12-month appointment.
Position Summary and General Responsibilities: S/he is responsible to the Director of the Library for providing library services. Primary responsibilities fall in the area of providing reference and instructional services for both printed and electronic formats. Specific responsibilities are those given below and such others as may be assigned by the Director. Some evening and weekend work required.
1. Offer Bibliographic Instruction/Orientation sessions on library research methodology for classes in various disciplines.
2. Provide reference, research, technical, and circulation assistance to users in the library.
3. Create and produce user guides and instructional materials, in both print and electronic format.
4. Promote the use of current research tools to faculty, students & staff; provide corresponding instruction and assistance to faculty.
5. Work with faculty and instructional staff to help them integrate appropriate research assignments into course offerings.
6. Assist distance education and collaborative degree program students in locating and borrowing required resources not available locally.
7. Provide interlibrary loan services to UW-Barron County student, faculty and staff, using bibliographic verification standards and making decisions on document delivery options.
8. Participate in the library’s Collection Development, assist in the selection and weeding of library materials, and serve as a liaison to faculty departments.
9. Supervise inventory of the library collection.
10. Hire, train, supervise and oversee the budget for the library student employment program.
11. Maintain campus archives.
12. Oversee the serials collection.
13. Assist in maintaining the textbook library, including handling the collection of fines and working with student records.
14. Assist in the maintenance of course reserves in both electronic and print formats.
15. Supervise daily operations of the library in the absence of the library director.
16. Promote the library through posters, articles in the campus newspaper and other outreach.
17. Maintain commitment to providing excellent customer service, and attend professional meetings and developmental workshops.
18. Participate in UW-Barron County campus governance responsibilities, campus committees, UW Colleges governance and statewide library organizations in addition to Library Council.
19. Along with the Director, serve the needs of the UW-Colleges Online students through Online Library Support.
20. Assist Director in planning and implementing assessment activities for the library.
21. Actively participates in new initiatives.
Qualifications:
Required:
-Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution
-Strong public service commitment in a small campus environment
-Excellent organizational, problem solving and communication skills
-Ability to work collegially in small groups and team environments
Preferred:
-Two years experience in an academic library with supervisory experience
-Strong teaching skills
-Excellent online searching skills
-Interlibrary loan
- Voyager experience
Salary and Benefits:
12-month, 83% position. Full time salary $44,984 (83% = $37,336); excellent benefits
Preferred start date:
January 9, 2011
