University of Wisconsin Colleges Marketing Web Projects Manager

The University of Wisconsin Colleges (UWC), the 13 freshman/sophomore campuses of the UW is seeking an experienced web project manager for a full-time Web Project Manager position. The position is responsible for determining ongoing strategic best use of the web medium to recruit and retain adult students and traditional age college students.

Currently UW Colleges is re-designing the institutional and campus websites using Drupal development.  The Web Project Manager will manage the development and creation of this large multi-site project to help meet marketing recruitment objectives. The manager will also help ensure that websites meet informational and other needs of students, parents, high school counselors, faculty/staff, and others. A particular emphasis of the position will be on researching, analyzing, and meeting the web-related needs of returning adults. The Web Project Manager will be responsible for overall web strategy, content management, site architecture, design direction, and site standards. This position works with an in-house web developer, graphic designer and web content providers for the UW Colleges websites and reports to the UW Colleges director of marketing.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with experience in managing complex website design projects and extensive experience working directly with clients. Technical skills are desirable. A background in marketing is also desired.  The ideal candidate will possess excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills as well as exceptional management skills.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor‘s degree required. (Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Business, Information Technology, Web Design or relevant degree preferred.)
  • Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in web project management. Experience in higher education or marketing is desirable.
  • Required Skills:
    1. Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex web projects with deadline and budget parameters while achieving measurable results.
    • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and work under deadline pressures.
    • Ability to develop and implement processes to achieve specific goals.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with many different constituencies including faculty, academic staff, students, IT, and others.
    • Ability to self-initiate ideas, research and synthesize information, and creatively problem solve.
    • Experience with marketing communications.
    • Experience with PC & MAC platforms and websites. Familiarity with web terms, features, and ADA compliance. Must know basics of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, C# Net, Visual Studio, Oracle SQL, ASP and Web Content Management systems
    • Understanding of social media.
    • Knowledge of college recruitment principles and practices.
    • Commitment to diversity.
    • Ability to work independently and in teams.

Major Duties:

80% - Develop, coordinate and support UW Colleges and 13 campus websites

Management:

  • Proficient communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external audiences to ensure project success
  • Experience in leading teams
  • Report and Communicate the status of projects at team weekly meetings
  • Manage and monitor Google Analytics
  • Successfully manage departmental expectations, ensure delivery of the highest quality service, and solicit and act on user feedback
  • Assist with creation and maintenance of project documentation including status reports, project schedules, and post-launch review
  • Develop web strategy to evaluate, manage, and improve system workflow to streamline online content creation and publishing.
  • Establish project timelines and maintain project plans
  • Develop project definitions; ensure clear understanding of project purpose, requirements, and implications.
  • Communicate projects to non-technical personnel.
  • Manage web requests and assign projects to internal team members
  • Weigh technology and design alternatives against time and resources to help determine strategy
  • Research latest web technologies
  • Lead re-design of all sites into a CMS environment, including: User focus groups, surveys, web analytics, information architecture, interface design, and technology


Site Production

  • Create technical specifications to guide projects, manage projects from inception through completion.
  • Lead user acceptance testing for all projects
  • Assist with coordinating graphics and multi-media elements for web pages
  • Assist with identifying and testing any website production issues and problems
  • Assist with Google Analytics reporting requests
  • Coordinate process to ensure web accessibility and compliance
  • Plan site architecture modifications/improvements with respect to user interface/user experience.
  • Oversee change implementation, testing, and release.


Content Management

  • Meet with project owners and key stakeholders to define content updates and projects
  • Lead content migration
  • Develop training tools such as user guides, online help information, and video tutorials
  • Conduct user training with Academic Staff/Faculty
  • Develop and document use case details for enhancement requests from a wide range of internal stakeholders.
  • Provide evaluations of CMS modification requirements and estimated effort (time and resource demand).
  • Create and maintain procedures to ensure content are complete, timely, and accurate.
  • Evaluate issues, define and implement solutions.

15% Organizational Activities and Projects

  • Educate faculty, staff and students in regard to the integration of technology for effective use in educational programming, communications and marketing.
  • Provide leadership in current web site development trends for the institution.
  • Provide training and develop materials for campus users.
  • Participate in appropriate staff meetings; participate in central IT meetings and University Relations meetings.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with central IT, UW Colleges Online, campus developers and university relations, faculty and staff.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

5% Professional Development

    • Maintain current awareness of trends, methods and technological advances in industry and profession, especially as they relate to assigned projects and responsibilities.
    • Actively engage in scholarly activities such as active participation in relevant technical communities, presentations, publications and contributions of knowledge back to the communities.

Salary
