Student Services Coordinator-Traditional Aged Student Specialist
12 month 1.0 FTE position
The Student Services Coordinator-Traditional Aged Student Specialist works as a team member within the Student Services Office at the University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County (UWMWC), reporting to the Assistant Campus Dean for Student Services. The position has a primary focused aimed at facilitating the transition, success and retention of traditional aged students. Duties include, but not limited to: academic advising of traditional-aged/high school students , coordination of new student orientation, coordinator of student activities, co-coordination of Student Ambassadors, coordinator of Connections program, Wisconsin Covenant liaison, International Student Advisor, and Youth Options.
Work Schedule: (40+ hours/week)
Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Weekend and evening hours as required
RECRUITING & RETENTION (100%)
Recruiting (20%)
- Orientation
- Coordinate student orientation programs from the campus (to include New Freshmen, Transfer, and Youth Options) and work collaboratively with the Adult Student Coordinator for returning adult orientations.
Retention (80%)
- Advising
- Provide comprehensive, on-going academic and career advising services to students with primary focus on Returning Adult Students.
- Assess individual student needs in relation to preparation for post-secondary education, and provide advising assistance in course selection, including developmental assistance.
- Assist in the financial aid process
- Advise in the Student Success program and maintain data for the program.
- Serve as the main advising contact for International Students on campus. Assist with paperwork and processing in order successfully proceed as a student on campus.
- Connections Program
- Coordinate the Madison Connections program for campus. Serve as the liaison to UW-Madison.
- Coordinate other 4-year Connections programs.
- Assist in recruiting qualified applicants into the program.
- Student Activities
- Oversee the student activities program on campus.
- In collaboration with the Student Senate Advisors, maintain proper paperwork for student groups.
- Promote opportunities for student groups on campus.
- Advise the Student Activities Committee.
- Student Ambassador’s
- Co-advise the campus ambassadors program.
- Recruit future ambassadors into the program.
- Serve as a member of the Student Leadership Committee
- Provide training and updates to the group in order to insure the best campus tour, information, and overall representation for the campus.
- Collaborate with other campus staff to determine campus needs and uses for the student ambassadors.
- Wisconsin Covenant Liaison
- Serve as the Covenant Liaison for the campus.
- Collaborate with the Covenant coordinator for UWC in communication and information for the Covenant students.
- Youth Options
- Work with the recruiter and ADSS to advise and transition all high school special, youth option, dual credit, etc.. Students to college.
- Provide guidance and career counseling to these students, and provide options for future attendance at UWMWC.
- Communicate with high school counselors about these students.
- Other
- Assessment
- Develop mechanisms to track student academic performance, persistence, and actual transfer data. Aggregate information will become s subset of institutional research on success and retention of nontraditional and at-risk students.
- Evaluate programs and implement changes when appropriate.
- Serve of campus committees
- Participate in campus shared governance
- Serve on Colleges-wide committees as appropriate
- Participate in campus-sponsored events
- Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Campus Dean for Student Services.
