CHEMISTRY Lecturer for Spring Semester, 2012
UW—Marathon County (Wausau)
The University of Wisconsin-Marathon County and the University of Wisconsin Colleges Chemistry Department invite applications for a part-time Lecturer (rank of Associate Lecturer, Lecturer, or Senior Lecturer depending on educational background and experience) for Spring 2012 to replace a retiring faculty member. It is possible a re-appointment could be made for additional semesters, though there is no guarantee. The UW-Marathon County campus is one of 13 campuses that comprise the UW Colleges (www.uwc.edu), a freshman-sophomore transfer institution within the UW System. The UW Colleges offer an excellent liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelor’s degree. UW-Marathon County (www.uwmc.uwc.edu) is in the city of Wausau in north central Wisconsin. Wausau is the principal commercial, cultural, and transportation hub for northern Wisconsin. It is a picturesque city surrounded by beautiful natural areas and has excellent educational and arts institutions as well as a diversified agricultural, industrial and service economy.
Teaching Responsibilities:
There could be shifts in teaching load, but ideally we are looking for one person to teach the following:
- CHE 125 lecture (TTh 8:30-10:20 a.m.); there is a lab instructor who teaches the two labs for this course.
- CHE 155 lecture (TTh 11:00-11:50 a.m.) and 3 discussion sections (WF 8:00 8:50 a.m., WF 11:00-11:50 a.m., WF 12:00-12:50 p.m.); there is a lab instructor who teaches the three labs for this course.
- Hold office hours on campus.
CHE 125—Introductory Chemistry (NS/LS)
A one-semester introductory course in college chemistry including an introduction to organic chemistry. Consists of lectures, discussions, and laboratories. Primarily for students whose programs require only CHE 125 or CHE 125 – CHE 203 combination. Recommended: demonstrated competency at MAT 105 level or concurrent MAT 105 registration.
CHE 155—General Chemistry II (NS/LS)
The second semester of a one-year course in college chemistry. Consists of lectures, discussions, and laboratories. For students whose programs require a year of college chemistry or who plan to take further courses in chemistry. Prereq: A grade of C- or better in CHE 145 and demonstrated competency at the MAT 110 level or consent of instructor.
Qualifications
Candidate must have at least a Master’s of Science degree in Chemistry or a very closely related discipline. Teaching experience at the university level is strongly desired.
Salary and Benefits
Salary depends on highest degree, years of university teaching experience, and final decision on teaching load. Instructor eligibility for fringe benefits will be determined by Human Resources Office.
Starting Date
Classes begin on January 23, 2012 and the contract period ends on May 24, 2012.
