ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY

UW Rock/UW Online

Position:  The Department of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor of Psychology

Required Qualifications:  A Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Education, Psychology, Educational Psychology, or Educational Administration from an accredited institution is required.  ABD candidates will be considered provided the PhD is confirmed by the start of the appointment.  Qualified candidates will have demonstrated experience in quality undergraduate teaching, and provide evidence of educational and/or psychological research.

Preferred Qualification

Prior experience teaching at the K – 12 and/or University level is preferred.

The applicant’s area of concentration in Psychology or Education is open, with preference for an individual who can teach Educational Psychology (EDU 230), Psychology of the Exceptional Individual (EDU 300) and Field Experience in Education (EDU 201), and Child Development (PSY 360).  Ability to teach Education in a Pluralistic Society (EDU 220) or Personal Portfolio Preparation for Education Majors (EDU 202), Introductory Psychology (PSY 201/202) Statistical Methods in Psychology (PSY 210) would be an asset.

Responsibilities:  This full-time appointment will be a split appointment:  50% at UW--Rock County and 50% with UWC--Online. The normal academic year teaching assignment is 24 credits and includes first and second year undergraduate education and psychology courses.  Teaching excellence, continued scholarly professional development, and service to the department, campus, and community are expected.

The UW Rock Campus

The growing UW-Rock County campus enrolls nearly 1300 students and is located on 50 rolling acres on the southwest side of Wisconsin’s City of Parks, Janesville, and includes a new state-of-the-art Engineering Center, library, classrooms and computer labs. The campus is currently experiencing rapid growth, owing in part to collaborative degree programs in nursing and engineering. With an emphasis on small classes and individualized student attention, UW-Rock County offers outstanding liberal arts education at the freshman-sophomore level. The largest city in the county, Janesville has a small-town feel and, with nearby Beloit and the other smaller Rock County communities, provides ample opportunities for recreation, education and entertainment. In addition, the added convenience of the urban amenities are within easy driving distance in Madison (40 miles), Milwaukee (85 miles), Rockford (30 miles) and Chicago (100 miles). UW Colleges Online

UW Colleges Online (http://online.uwc.edu/) is a well-establish program providing students with fully online access to the UW Colleges Associate of Arts and Science degree since 2001. UW Colleges Online offers the same courses taught by the same instructors on the UW Colleges campuses. Courses are adapted to the online teaching and learning environment with the assistance of qualified instructional designers. About 1,500 students enroll in UW Colleges Online courses each semester. Administrative headquarters is located in Madison.

Starting Date:  August 27, 2012

Salary:  $43,000 (9 month academic year)
