Assistant Professor of Communication & Theatre Arts

The University of Wisconsin Colleges Department of Communications and Theatre Arts invites applications for an Assistant Professor on its University of Wisconsin-Waukesha campus. The University of Wisconsin Colleges (http://www.uwc.edu/) is comprised of 13 freshman-sophomore campuses, dispersed geographically across the state, providing a 2-year associate’s degree curriculum for transfer within the UW System.

As one of the UWC campuses, the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha provides freshmen and sophomores with a strong liberal arts general education curriculum and hosts several UW baccalaureate degree-completion programs via distance education.  UW-Waukesha, located on the western edge of the Milwaukee metropolitan area, enrolls over 2,000 students and employs over 160 faculty and staff.  For more information, please to www.waukesha.uwc.edu .  Upon completion of their associate’s degrees, most UW-Waukesha graduates transfer to UW-Milwaukee, UW-Whitewater, UW-Madison or another baccalaureate degree-granting institution to complete their university educations.

TITLE: Assistant Professor of Communications and Theatre Arts

APPOINTMENT: Tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of Communications and Theatre Arts. Contract begins August 27, 2012.

QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or terminal degree in Communication Arts or a closely related field. Applications from terminal degree candidates will be accepted with the expectation that the terminal degree will be confirmed by the start of the appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Normal teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. As this is a tenure-track position, scholarly activity in the discipline, participation in institutional and community service and student advising are expected. The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning. Interest or experience in the instruction of interdisciplinary courses, blended and accelerated/blended courses, assessment of student learning, collaborative learning, freshman seminar, and service learning are also desirable.

DESCRIPTION of DUTIES

  • Teach four courses (12 credit hours) per semester which include a combination of the following possibilities: Introduction to Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Popular Culture in the Media, Mass Communication, Communication and Human Behavior, Introduction to Film, or other courses that fall within the curriculum of the Communication and Theatre Arts Department.
  • Demonstrate continued commitment to scholarly activity in the discipline and/or the scholarship of teaching.
  • Participate in campus, institutional and community service, and the shared governance structure.
  • Participate in the recruitment and advising of students into the communication program consistent with the goal to build and sustain the program.
  • Participate in efforts involved in collaborative teaching/interdisciplinary courses and assessment of student learning.
  • Commit to flexible scheduling of classes to meet the needs of varied student populations.

SALARY: Starting salary currently is $43,000. Additional compensation for summer and/or winterim instruction may be a possibility as needed. Details of the benefits package may be found at http://www.uwsa.edu/hr/benefits.
