ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF GEOGRAPHY

Position
The Department of Geography and Geology at the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography at its UW-Waukesha campus to start in the fall of 2012.
Qualifications
Required qualifications are a Ph.D. in geography or closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the PhD is confirmed by the start of the appointment. Experience in physical and cultural geography, as well as GIS are required. Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and learning are also required.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include teaching experience as a principal instructor of university freshman-sophomore level courses, experience teaching and engaging a diverse population (race, social class, age) of students, and evidenced continuing research. Knowledge and interest in instructional technology is also desired.
Responsibilities
Teach a minimal 12 credit course load, in which courses may include world regional geography, introduction to human geography, environmental conservation, introduction to GIS, and introductory physical geography. Other responsibilities include professional development (broadly defined and including research) and service, especially in shared governance.The department encourages its faculty to engage in understanding and developing new effective teaching strategies, techniques and technologies, including but not limited to accelerated and hybrid courses, online courses, distance education, service learning, learning communities, interdisciplinary courses on campus, and engaging students in the first year.

The Campus
UW-Waukesha, located on the western edge of the Milwaukee metropolitan area, enrolls over 2,000 students and employs over 160 faculty and staff. Upon completion of their associate’s degrees, most UW-Waukesha graduates transfer to UW-Milwaukee, UW-Whitewater, UW-Madison or another baccalaureate degree-granting institution to complete their university educations.
Compensation/Benefits
$43,000 (9 month academic year)
