Position: The UW Colleges Art Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Art to start in the fall of 2012.  The UW Colleges is the freshman-sophomore transfer institution within the UW System.  UW Colleges functions as a unit that comprises thirteen two-year campuses, each of which offers an excellent liberal arts and pre-professional education for students beginning work toward a bachelor’s degree. Required Qualifications:  The qualified candidate must have an MFA in a related area (such as painting, drawing, design) and at least two years teaching experience beyond graduate assistant level.  Knowledge of design, color theory, as well as the ability to teach drawing and painting must be demonstrated in the candidate’s work and student work.  The successful candidate will bring a record of commitment to teaching excellence and a strong exhibition record.

Preferred Qualifications:  Interest and/or experience in using instructional technology with the ability to develop/teach online, hybrid or DE courses, teaching interdisciplinary studies courses and/or team teaching in learning communities and the first year experience program are preferred.   Experience working with Digital Imaging and Design is desirable.

Responsibilities:  Teach undergraduate freshman/sophomore art courses in the foundation art program; 2-D Design, 3-D Design, Drawing, Painting and courses in art history survey and/or multi-cultural art appreciation along with courses in one’s specialty area (see the course catalogue at www.uwc.edu/catalog/courses/).  The academic year teaching load is 15-18 contact hours per semester.  This tenure-track position requires scholarly activity in the discipline, a commitment to professional development and participation in campus and institutional service. This position will work with colleagues in a shared governance system, be involved in department service, program planning, and curriculum development.  Working with students from a broad range of disciplines and serving as an academic advisor to both new and continuing students is also expected.

UW-Barron County: The Barron County campus enrolls about 700 students with a full-time teaching staff of 25.  The campus is located in Rice Lake, a town of about 8,500 that serves as a commercial center in northwestern Wisconsin, with a shopping population in excess of 100,000.  About two hours driving distance from Minneapolis-St. Paul, the campus is bounded by the Red Cedar River and has been visited daily by bald eagles throughout its existence.  Rice Lake is also a medical and cultural center for the region.  The town is situated among several lakes known for game fishing and with ski trails half an hour to the east in the Blue Hills. Compensation/Benefits:  $43,000 (9 month academic year).  Summer and winterim sessions may occasionally offer additional opportunities for compensation. An outstanding benefits package is included with the appointment; details can be found at www.uwsa.edu/hr/benefits.

Application:  Applications must include: a letter of interest, curriculum vitae which describes teaching experience in detail, unofficial transcripts, a statement of teaching philosophy, list of college courses taught (with 2-3 sample syllabi), 20 images of recent student work from these courses (electronic images may be submitted via CD-ROM and should be approximately 1000x800 pixels @ 72 ppi, saved as jpegs), and 20 images of your own work (CD-ROM acceptable).  Also include the names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of three professional references, at least two of whom have direct knowledge of the applicant’s teaching ability.  With the possible exception of images, all materials must be submitted electronically to faculty.positions@uwc.edu.  Student evaluations of teaching may also be submitted if available.
