Assistant Professor of Engineering

University of Wisconsin Colleges Online/
University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley

Do you wish to work at a university where excellence in the classroom and excellence as a scholar are acknowledged and valued? Where the classes are small and the campus is more of a community than simply a place of employment? This tenure-track position offers these things and more.

UW Colleges Online and UW-Fox Valley in partnership with UW-Platteville, offer ABET-accredited bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. UW Colleges Online and UW-Fox Valley provide the first and second year pre-engineering curriculum. UW-Platteville faculty teach junior and senior level courses either on site or using distance technology.

Position:

The Department of Computer Science, Engineering, Physics and Astronomy (CSEPA) of the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Engineering with the UW Colleges Online and the UW-Fox Valley campus. The successful candidate will be in residence at UW-Fox Valley.

Title:

Assistant Professor of Engineering

A PhD in engineering or a closely related field by the contract starting date is preferred. ABD candidates will be considered, with degree completion required within one year. Preference will be given to candidates with successful teaching experience, especially in online education and undergraduate education.

Responsibilities:

The teaching load is 24 contact hours per year and may include Introduction to Engineering, Engineering Graphics, Engineering Economics, Statics, Dynamics, and Strength of Materials. Approximately 3/4 of the contact hours will be taught online for UW Colleges Online and the remaining contact hours will be taught at UW-Fox Valley. Options to teach other courses via distance education and to participate in interdisciplinary or collaborative instruction may also be available. This tenure-track position requires teaching excellence, continued professional development, institutional and community service, and student advising.

The Colleges and Campus:

The University of Wisconsin Colleges is the freshman-sophomore liberal arts transfer institution within the world-renowned UW System. UW Colleges functions as a unit that comprises thirteen two-year campuses and UW Colleges Online located around Wisconsin, each of which offers an excellent liberal arts and pre-professional education for students intending to complete a bachelor's degree.

Most engineering students either remain in the collaborative program with UW-Platteville or transfer after two years to a 4-year degree-granting UW institution in Madison, Milwaukee, or Platteville.

Although the successful candidate will work for both UW Colleges Online and UW-Fox Valley, the candidate will be located at UW-Fox. Located in Menasha, Fox is the second largest of the thirteen campuses with about 1700 students and is located in the heart of the Fox Cities, a thriving economic and cultural center of increasing ethnic diversity. The Fox Cities include small- to medium-sized communities, with an aggregate population in excess of 250,000. We are approximately ninety minutes north of Milwaukee and two hours from Madison. Nearby are Appleton (immediately adjacent), Green Bay (40 miles), and Oshkosh (22 miles). The campus is also near Wisconsin's beautiful Door Peninsula, Lake Michigan. The Fox Cities region is location of large corporations such as Kimberly Clark, Appleton [Papers], Plexus, Pierce Manufacturing, Gulfstream, Oshkosh Corporation, and many others known for their manufacturing prowess. This offers considerable opportunity for consulting.

The quality of life is simply outstanding. Even new faculty can afford quality homes. Public schools are second to none. It's a great place for families. A new, 2000-seat, Performing Arts Center in downtown Appleton opened in 2002, and serves as a venue for national touring companies in both music and drama. The campus inaugurated a two-venue performance and fine arts center in the fall of 2009.
