Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, Tenure Track

University of Wisconsin – Rock County

Position: The Department of Biological Sciences of the UW Colleges and UW-Rock County invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in the Biological Sciences or closely related field.  ABD candidates will be considered, provided the PhD is confirmed by the start of the appointment.   The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to quality undergraduate teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications:  Evidenced academic and/or instructional background teaching university-level Anatomy & Physiology.  Innovative teaching methods, appropriate use of instructional technology, experience teaching a wide variety of courses, and experience in teamwork or working collaboratively will strengthen application.  Experience in teaching distance education or hybrid courses is also desired.

Responsibilities: The academic year teaching assignment is 12-14 contact hours per week and includes first and second year biology courses.  An Anatomy & Physiology lecture/lab sequence is expected to be a regular assignment for this position.  A variety of other lecture and laboratory courses could be assigned, including freshman and sophomore courses in biology, zoology, and genetics.  This is a tenure track position and requires excellence in teaching, continued professional development, and institutional and community service.

The Campus: The growing UW-Rock County campus enrolls nearly 1300 students and is located on 50 rolling acres on the southwest side of Wisconsin’s City of Parks, Janesville, and includes a new state-of-the-art Engineering Center, library, classrooms and computer labs.  The campus is currently experiencing rapid growth, owing in part to collaborative degree programs in nursing and engineering.  With an emphasis on small classes and individualized student attention, UW-Rock County offers outstanding liberal arts education at the freshman-sophomore level. The largest city in the county, Janesville has a small-town feel and, with nearby Beloit and the other smaller Rock County communities, provides ample opportunities for recreation, education and entertainment. In addition, the added convenience of the urban amenities are within easy driving distance in Madison (40 miles), Milwaukee (85 miles), Rockford (30 miles) and Chicago (100 miles).  See http://www.rock.uwc.edu/ for more information about the campus and community.

Salary: Starting salary is $43,000. Summer session may occasionally offer additional opportunities for compensation. An outstanding benefits package is included with the appointment.

Starting Date: August 27, 2012
