The Department of Chemistry in the University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Rock County campus. Part of the world-renowned University of Wisconsin System, the UW Colleges offers freshman/sophomore instruction in the liberal arts for students beginning work towards a bachelor's degree, as well as instruction for students preparing for professional programs, in the engineering, pharmaceutical and medical fields among others.
The Campus:
The Rock County campus is located in Janesville, a city of 60,000 near the Wisconsin-Illinois border and is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the state. The proximity to the state capitol in Madison is a plus. Currently the campus serves nearly 1200 students in a college environment that provides for small classes and individualized student attention. The campus is currently experiencing rapid growth, owing in part to collaborative degree programs in engineering and nursing. TITLE:
Assistant Professor of Chemistry
APPOINTMENT:
Tenure-track faculty appointment in the Department of Chemistry begins 26 August, 2010.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. (required for tenure, ABD acceptable for the application) in Chemistry with emphasis in organic and biochemistry preferred. Primary interest in teaching undergraduates at the lower division level is required, especially those in the collaborative nursing program with UW-Oshkosh, and experience with teaching university-level courses is preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to, and success in, teaching and working with undergraduate students. Successful candidates will also have the preparation and background suitable to meet the responsibilities listed below. Also desirable are interest and/or experience in using instructional technology and distance education, teaching in interdisciplinary teams, and/or learning communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching a selection of organic, biochemistry and introductory chemistry courses for 12-15 contact hours per week is expected. Maintenance of the organic chemistry facility, which is dedicated to microscale methods, is expected. This is a tenure track position and as such, it requires excellence in teaching, continued professional development, and institutional and community service.
SALARY:
Starting salary currently is $43,000 for the academic year. Teaching in summer and winter sessions may offer additional opportunities for compensation. An outstanding benefits package is included with the appointment. Please seewww.uwsa.edu/hr/benefits.
