All students who have not completed college-level English, mathematics or foreign language courses are required to participate in UW System placement testing. Placement test results are used for advising and registration. Plan to take your placement tests at least two weeks prior to registering for classes.
How do I register?
After you are admitted, specific instructions for testing dates and requirements will be sent to your campus email. You can register for campus testing dates through that email. The placement test fee is part of your new student fees.
What should I bring with me on testing day?
- A government-issued photo ID
- Two #2 pencils
- A non-graphing calculator
NOTE: The University of Wisconsin requires students to show government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license, state-issued ID or passport when they arrive to take placement tests. Students will not be allowed to test without providing an appropriate photo ID.
What can I expect on testing day?
Students are allowed 90 minutes for each of the English and mathematics tests and 45 minutes for a written essay. The optional foreign language tests are 60 minutes.
Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the test start time. The tests begin promptly at the time listed. Late arrivals will not be admitted and must take the tests at a later date.
How can I request accommodations?
If you wish to request special accommodations due to a disability, follow the instructions on the Regional Placement Testing site or contact the Solution Center at 1-888-INFO-UWC or email the UWCSolutionCenter@uwc.edu.
