The admission requirements for students who are not residents of the United States vary from those outlined in the UW-Colleges catalog for U.S. residents. International applicants are admitted on the basis of their academic preparation, their ability to effectively understand and use the English language, and the determination by the international admissions office that their educational and career goals may be furthered by attendance at a UW-Colleges campus.
At a minimum, students must be able to show completion of an approved secondary education program or the equivalent. English proficiency may be demonstrated by a minimum score of 61 on the internet-based TOEFL (500 paper-based), a minimum score of 5 on the IELTS, or by a recommendation letter from an English Language School with which the UW-Colleges has an articulation agreement. Students who have attended secondary or post-secondary institutions with an entirely English-based curriculum should contact the Coordinator of International Education to discuss alternate ways they may demonstrate English proficiency. Students applying for the ESL program at UW-Marinette are not required to demonstrate English proficiency.
International students may be admitted as either degree-seeking or special students based on their educational goals.
International students who have attended another college or university may be eligible for admission as transfer students. In order to transfer international credits to the UW-Colleges, students must submit their post-secondary transcripts to a recognized credentials evaluation service and provide official transcripts (and official English translations, if applicable) to the UW-Colleges Office of the Registrar.
International applicants who wish to apply for a student visa must provide proof of their ability to pay all expenses while they are students. All enrolled international students are required to purchase the UW-System health insurance policy unless they can provide proof of comparable or superior coverage.
Priority international application deadlines are June 1 (for fall semester) and November 1 (for spring semester). Applications received after these dates will be reviewed individually but may need to be deferred until a later semester.
